Plasma-ElectrodeGentle treatment at a single tooth and the gingiva
The treatment with the plasma-electrodes is based on the generation of plasma directly at the treatment site. As the plasma-electrode approaches the body, an electrical discharge occurs. With the resulting electric arc, air particles are broken down leading to the creation of plasma. Thus, the human body serves as the opposite pole to the plasma-electrode, and the generation of plasma does not take place in a closed atmosphere, separated from the ambient air.
Therefore, pure oxygen cannot be utilised by the plasma-electrodes for the generation of plasma. Due to the low oxygen content of 21 % in the air, the proportion of singlet oxygen in the generated plasma is not high enough for a sufficient bleaching effect on the dental emanel. The plasma-electrodes are not suited for teeth whitening and rather find their use in germ elemination and wound healing.
